At the majority of schools that I have taught at for almost 3 decades, Halloween is consider to be a the most dreaded holidays among teachers. No one every looks forward to it. Every faculty has had at least one, if not more teachers, who get a substitute to avoid being at school on Halloween. Many Teachers usually do not care for the parades they have to lead, host parties in their classrooms, or watch kids get overloaded with candy.
The current school I teach at has a completely different outlook on Halloween. They love it and embrass it! The faculty picks a theme and then the individual grades choose what they will create for their costume. They coordiante with emails and spreadsheets. It’s nothing I have ever seen before in my teaching career.
Halloween is huge at my school. HUGE! The parade is lead by our principal. The teachers and faculty members not only dress up, but they stay in character while in the parade. It’s not only fun to be a part of, but very entertaining to watch.
I loved taking pictures and waving at all the adults in the parade.
The 2021 Halloween Theme at our school was all things Disney. The office staff dressed up as Toy Story characters, Kindergarten chose The Little Mermaid, 1st Grade was Star Wars (new to Disney), 2nd Grade (who I joined with) was Cinderella, 3rd Grade Emperor’s New Grove, 4th Grade Alice In Wonderland, 5th Grade Sleeping Beauty Fairies, 6th Grade ended the parade with Monsters.
I’ve never seen a faculty so positive about Halloween. It was refeshing and a new twist on Halloween. I loved being a part of it all.
The 2022 Halloween Parade Theme has already been announced – Witchapalooza. I can’t wait!
Here’s a few pic from the All Things Disney Theme, October 2021:
